Adaptive Controls
N&R is engaged in NASA-sponsored research to develop autonomous control systems that will enable aircraft engines to adapt to changing engine conditions such as deteriorating component performance due to wear and tear. By maximizing the engine performance under all operating conditions instead of just the average new engine design point, significant gains can be attained in overall performance and other characteristics without violating safety constraints such as compressor stall margin.
