Software Tool Development
N&R has developed several key modeling/analysis software tools for NASA sponsored programs including a major upgrade to an existing probabilistic finite element structural analysis code (NESSUS). The upgraded code, called NESTEM, can now handle heat transfer uncertainties and composite material uncertainties. It can generate a geometric model of simple structures or, alternatively, accept the geometric models generated by ANSYS or NASTRAN. N&R also interfaced NESSUS with NASA's Quantitative Risk Assessment System code (QRAS).
Probabilistic Failure Analysis Using the NESTEM Code

Another software development example is our computer programming support of NASA's Project Integration Architecture project to establish a scalable, server-side architecture for enterprise-wide computer code development and information sharing using CORBA, Unified Modeling Language, and Portable Object Adapter.
